Alexandria Crystal is a 6th form student following her interests in history, Spanish and performing arts, a keen singer and actress. A dyslexia awareness campaigner, Alexandria witnessed how classroom interventions and those used at home made a profound difference to her brothers abilities in a very short space of time when he was identified as dyslexic at the age of 7.Unbeknown to Alexandria and completely unaware that she too had dyslexia, she had devised coping mechanisms. These became of limited use once the intensity and speed of learning had increased when she began her GCGE courses. Alexandria had reached a point where she was over working to almost exhaustion yet still struggling to keep up, her dyslexia was finally identified at the age of 14. Throughout her education she had not presenting as a typical individual with dyslexia on the face of it looking like she was thriving at times; this lead to the realisation of how many opportunities had been missed for interventions. Alexandria appreciated that there are many more students and their families who might struggle to advocate for themselves and so began her campaigning.
In 2024, Alexandria was awarded the title ‘Miss Inspiration’ for her campaigning and charity work at the Miss England Pageant where she became the youngest finalist in the competitions 70 year history. 2024 also saw Alexandria walking catwalks in London and Paris, a Regional North America and European Finalist in the World Monologue Games Youth Category, shortlisted as a Rising Star by the Third Sector Charity Awards, cumulating with being awarded the British Dyslexia Associations Outstanding Young Person of the Year.
Disappointed that attempts to pass the Neurodivergent Conditions (Screening and Teacher Training Bill) faltered due to a lack of Parliamentary time and unsure whether new members of Parliament would make neurodiversity provision a priority Alexandria filed a petition with the Government that encompasses the spirit of the previous Bill. Alexandria has reached out to members of both Houses in Parliament to highlight this issue and is actively engaging with the media to garner support and exposure for her campaign and the petition.
